Dewey and the Peoples, a reggae rock band from San Carlos, will perform at Freewheel Brewing Company in Marsh Manor on Friday, May 31 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. There is no cover charge.

The group, featured with fans, has appeared at the Cali Roots Fall Mix-up in Monterey, DNA Lounge, and Brick and Mortar in San Francisco, as well as in many local venues. Singer and frontman Darren Robinson, aka “Dewey,” began collaborating with guitarist Jared Solomon in 2011. Jared brought in two musicians he had met in the band class at Sequoia High School, bassist Marley Edwards and drummer Peter Johnston, then Donnie Dal Broi was brought on the keyboard.

College-aged musicians take their music seriously: Peter attends UCSC and studies percussion, Marley and Darren study music at the College of San Mateo, and Jared will attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston starting this fall. . The band has an EP, Just lee, available on iTunes and is about to return to the studio to record a full album.

“This is the first of what we hope will be many regular concerts at Freewheel,” said Gary Waymire, a resident of Menlo Park, a quarterback of the brewery crew. “We focus on local bands who want to play in an intimate venue or who are developing bands that maybe can’t fit as big a place as The Club Fox, for example. The type of music will vary, but most will be singer-songwriter or acoustic performances of classic rock, reggae, and bluegrass.
