How to Disable Categories in Google Messages on Android

0

Google’s Messages app, which is the default SMS app on many Android devices, has “Categories” at the top to organize your text messages. Luckily, this email-like feature can be turned off if that’s not your cup of tea.

Since March 2022, posts displays three “Categories” at the top of the inbox: “All”, “Personal”, and “Business”. You don’t have to do any manual sorting. Google automatically tries to sort your posts into these categories.

If this feature sounds familiar, it’s because it’s very similar to Gmail’s categories. You might not find it as useful for texting. Let’s get rid of it.

First, open the Messages app and tap your profile icon on the top right.

Select “Message Settings” from the menu.

To select "Email settings."

Go to “Organize messages” in the settings. »

Go to "Organization of messages."

Turn off the switch for “Show posts by category”.

To note: Unfortunately, you have to enable it if you want to use the “Automatically delete OTPs after 24 hours” feature found on this same screen.

To extinguish "View posts by category."

That’s all we can say about it. Your inbox will be back to the typical layout with no categories at the top of the screen. Messages has other organizational features that you can use to keep things neat and easy to find.
