Chad & Jeremy - July 11
Click HERE to view a wonderful video of Chad and Jeremy
The Chad & Jeremy bio at the All Music Guide web site begins:
"Of the many British Invasion acts that stormed the charts in the wake of
the Beatles, Chad & Jeremy possessed a subtlety and sophistication
unmatched among their contemporaries, essentially creating the template
for the kind of lush, sensitive folk-pop embraced by followers from Nick
Drake to Belle & Sebastian."

Several decades later, they have been described by one concert reviewer as
"Simon and Garfunkel meet Peter Cooke and Dudley Moore." They serve
up an appealing blend of vocal harmonies, inventive guitar and piano
playing spiced with their unique brand of banter, stories and sardonic wit.

From humble beginnings in coffee houses and folk clubs in London, they
recorded a string of hits (Yesterday's Gone, Summer Song, Willow Weep
For Me, If I Loved You, Before and After, Distant Shores). As former
drama students, they were quickly snapped up by Hollywood ("We had
long hair and could string a sentence together") appearing as themselves
in legendary television shows including The Dick Van Dyke Show, The
Patty Duke Show, and Batman. They hosted Hullabaloo and appeared on
all the great variety shows like The Hollywood Palace, Red Skelton and
Andy Williams.
Eventually, they went their separate ways – Jeremy returning to England to pursue an acting career while Chad remained in Los
Angeles working as an arranger and record producer.

In the eighties they teamed up again, with another album and starring roles in the British version of the Broadway hit, Pump Boys &
Dinettes. Then came the opportunity to tour the U. S. with British Invasion II. After the tour, which garnered laudatory reviews for the
duo, Jeremy was obliged to return to Europe to shoot a television series, ending their first reunion attempt. Chad escaped from Los
Angeles to raise his family in Sun Valley, Idaho where he now lives and teaches music.

Over the years, the two men remained in touch, continuing to write songs and wondering in the back of their minds whether another
reunion might be possible. Serendipity intervened in the summer of 2003 with a PBS TV music special (repeated frequently, during
pledge/membership drive periods). Since then they have performed all over the world, entrancing audiences with their unique blend of
songs old and new, romantic and satirical, humorous stories and anecdotes.

Join them – and us – when they make their first appearance on our stage.  A great time will be had by all.
John Keawe - July 16

  • GRAMMY Award winner (2005)
  • Multi HOKU award recipient
  • Recipient of Hawaii's prestigious Ki ho'alu (Slack Key)
    Award in 2002

John Keawe is a songwriter and slack-key guitarist who was
born on the Big Island of Hawaii, in the little town of Hawi in
North Kohala. John grew up with rock and roll music and
enjoyed listening to singer/songwriters.  After a four year tour
in the Navy, John returned to his home and was drawn to the
sound of Hawaiian slack-key. He listened and watched and
taught himself to play this style of music. Through the years,
he has developed his own distinct style.
About the same time, John began to perform publicly and also began composing his own songs. Two of his early compositions
Ka`auhuhu Homestead” and “Big Island Magic” were chosen for album cuts on projects that involved various artists.
Through the years, John has released eight recordings on the Homestead label.

Of all eight recordings to date, six were nominated for
Hoku awards (which is the local music awards). The CD “Ho`onanea
won that award in 1994 for best instrumental performance. At the 1998 Hawaii Music awards, John won best slack-key artist
for his "
Mana`olana" CD.  In 2003, John received a Hawaii Music Award for “Aloha Kaikua`ana”. He also won a Hoku
Award
for Ki-ho`alu, which is a special award given to an artist for perpetuating the art of slack-key guitar.

In 2005, John was honored as a contributing artist on
Hawaii's first Grammy Award-winning album (for Best Hawaiian Music
Album
) for "Slack-key Guitar Vol. 2".

  • "Discovered by guitar legend John Fahey in 1972, Lang is one of the
finest acoustic finger-style players in the nation -- a true master.  His
songs are complex, mercurial, lyrical, and fluid. . . A rare must-see show
for fans of finger-style guitar." ~ THE VILLAGE VOICE
Peter Lang is one of the world's preeminent 6 and 12 string fingerpicking guitar
players. He withdrew from the professional music world for 2 decades. He has
returned in the new century with magnificent playing that mines the roots of his
original inspiration - he cites the work of such country Bluesmen as
Blind Boy
Fuller
, Blind Blake, Rev. Gary Davis, and Mississippi John Hurt as the principal
influences on his dizzying fingerpicking.  His newest CD explores and revels in
the DNA of American music. Peter talks about the music, saying  "Historians
say blues was full blown by 1890 with centuries of African-American oral history
behind it the whole world loves it and the lyrics seem ageless -- sex and power,
betrayal and redemption. It was the southern working man's pop music, what
made Elvis and Dylan and Springsteen possible, also made Tupac and Nirvana,
for that matter."
Discovered by JOHN FAHEY and signed to Fahey's record label, Peter's stature in the world of guitar greats is
such that he was included in the following reference: "John Fahey, Leo Kottke, and Peter Lang comprised the
legendary holy trinity of finger-style guitar innovators back in the '70s."
